Value Added Courses

VALUE ADDED COURSES

Value added course is an additional skill that can cover areas of importance apart from university curriculum to make students better prepared to meet professional demands, at the same time it helps students to develop their own interest and aptitudes. These courses are conducted by professionals and industry experts helping the students to stand apart from the rest in the job market by adding further value to their resume.

The main objectives of the program are:

  • To provide students an understanding of the expectations of industry.
  • To improve employability skills of Architecture students.
  • To bridge the skill gaps and make students ready for the industries.
  • To provide an opportunity to students to develop inter-disciplinary skills.
  • To bridge the skill gaps and make students ready for the industries.

Architecture as a field itself has multiple existing and creative disciplines as scopes for the future endeavor of the students in their professional career. Incorporation of scope based courses will help them to prepare for their goals in specific direction. Mostly after the academic period, students gets trained in specific field of their interest, here they can be availed with preparation from the academic period itself. Moreover the knowledge provided through this scope will make them advanced and unchallenged when compared to the general students. McGAN’S Ooty School of architecture has taken the initiative for providing willing students an opportunity to avail knowledge from seven futuristic value added courses.

1. Architectural Lighting Design

The subject deals with concern of lighting design to serve human with both natural light and artificial light. This design process takes the account of color of light to use, amount of light required, distribution of lights in indoor as well as outdoor and physiological effect of lighting. Lighting design system is an important part of architectural design to provide appropriate environment with aesthetics and visual comfort. The Design Academy, England, IED – institute Europe di design Barcelona are successful institute’s to conduct two years Master’s program, Architectural lighting is a one of the important subject in most of master’s program in India.

2. Biomimicry

Inspiration from the nature had always been a source of creation for various ideas and works. Ideas reflecting through the form, function and materials in architecture had brought inspiration from nature itself. When we talk of types of Architecture and concept formation, Biomimicry catches and large group of architects. This subject will help the students in concept formation and better idea of the existing natural potentials. It is one of the important paper in BIO innovative architecture in US Master’s Program and Summer Winter School CEPT also touches this programme as special class.

3. Block chain management in Architecture

Block chain technology has the core characteristics of decentralization, accountability, and security. This technique can improve operational efficiency and save costs significantly that helps in architectural project management. Block chain architecture is being used very broadly in the financial industry and manufacturing units. However, these days, this technology is employed not only for cryptocurrencies, but also for record keeping, digital notary, and smart contracts. The demand and usage of applications built on block chain architecture will only evolve. Thus, it makes now the right time to get educated on this topic. Though there are several online courses in India to talk about management but very few experts in India can relate with architecture to provide adequate knowledge.

4. Intelligent Building

Manual working and organizing the workmanship requires multi-level of management and surveillance, the intelligence is the factor that reduces the effort and increases the productivity where the time can be taken as constant. Intelligent buildings focuses more on advanced techniques to reduce the human effort, provides maximum benefits, adds most modern techniques into the structure while utilizing the least amount of time. Intelligent building is the one of master’s subject in NIT and IIT in India and this topic is specially considered as a masters in Eindhoven University of Technology Netherlands.

5. Parametric design

Design based on algorithm thinking in architecture, Computer technology has given designers and architects the tools to analyses and simulate the complexity observed in nature and apply it to structural building shapes and urban organizational patterns. Form- finding is one of the strategies implemented in architectural parametric design. The idea behind form-finding is to optimize certain design goals against a set of design constraints. Though Supportive software/plugins like grasshopper and Rhinos can leaned through Workshops, control-mad advanced design center and USC School of architecture Los Angeles university came up with master degree in parametric design.

6. Universal Design

This is one of the design approach for products and buildings that can be used by everyone regardless of their ability and disability. In current trend “The universal design concept increases the supply of usable housing by including universal features in as many houses as possible,” also it says Disability is not a special condition and Usability and aesthetics are mutually compatible. Universal design is the one of the upcoming master’s courses in architecture stated recently in and several universities like NID India, University at Buffalo, Board of European Students of Technology Belgium, etc.

7. Virtual Reality

In tradition architects explains design by blue prints, scale drawings and 3D models but Virtual reality in architecture can transmit not just what a building will look like, but also what it will feel like. Benefit of VR is not only that it can be rendered at different Levels of Detail, so an Architect just to get a sense of spatial relationships and massing. Or the experience could be hyperreal, so that a VR video could have soft sunlight filtering down through a clerestory window, with the sound of birds chirping outside I.e. it allows you to step into a space from your office to check out specific elements, design languages, environments, and construction needs. Though there are several startup companies coming with the concept of workshop unfortunately none of the Indian institutes offers certified course of Virtual reality but you can find TMD studios UK, Sheffield Hallam University Sheffield offers this as an online course.
