The task was completed in five days by keeping the NASA day as head start. On 11th and 12thof September 2015,the first coat of primer was done by the evening. On the 13thof September, the work resumed with the design sketches made on the wall, and the final improvisations was done.
By next day the sketches were done, the work started enthusiastically and the first coat of paint was done by the students. Due to a heavy rain at noon, some parts of the graffiti were wiped out, but it was later covered with sacks and Tarpolian sheets to avoid further wipe out.Ones the rain was settled, work was resumed by giving the wiped out parts some patch works and the graffiti was resumed back normal and work progressed with full fledged.
The following days progressed with the students giving in more colors , giving their work more liveliness and giving in their ideas to improvise their design in order to convey their message. The color combos were all blended in and balanced, hence giving the graffiti a touch of cope2.
The design work was completed on 16th of December 2015 and the NASA logo and College Logo was slotted in the graffiti.

The next morning woke everyone up with excitement and adrenaline in their minds and bodies. While the U-Sec moved on for the registration process, the rest of them observed and took in all the might and air of an impending experience of a lifetime. The drums and the rhythm of a hundred colleges and thousands of hearts beating created a sense of surreal feeling. The students were provided with coupons for food .And a little later, the students settled down in the accommodations they were provided. Evening brought the students the flashing flags and heavy drum beats that came with the scent of Biriyani , which made everybody´s heart and stomach a little hungry. The night opened with even of “Battle of the Bands” and as it continued to thrill the crowd and the judges, few senior students moved to panel sheets for the Rueben´s trophy which continued till 3:00 am.
The next day came with a lot more excitement starting with the bull printed t-shirts that McGan´s students wore to represent their might and drive to win. Various seminar and workshops were held in different arenas and halls throughout the day, but the seminar by the infamous Peter Cook on sustainable architecture was the most talked about. The noon broke everybody into quite a peppy mood when students from different colleges and zones moved their feet to Bollywood numbers. The LIK and product design trophies were called upon and students moved to the respective areas to panel the sheets and the crowd enthusiastically cheered for their fellow people. The sun was setting and it was into the crimson sky that McGAN’S raised their flag proudly. And as hundreds of flags were hoisted and boasted the pride of one´s college, lanterns were flying across the sky and it was the time when everybody forgot the colour of their t-shirts and the college they came from and stood there marvelling at the beauty of the tremendous beauty of it all.
The third day of convention started off with the most awaited photography workshop which interested everybody with mind-blowing and intriguing pictures. The workshop taught the students the importance of observance and capturing moments that otherwise would be unnoticed by a naked eye. The workshop was followed by a couple more interesting seminars. The felicitation ceremony succeeded the seminar, and it included the most proud moment for the students of McGAN’S as the respected principal was honored for his tireless contribution with a lifetime achievement award in the field of architecture. The students later moved to observe the painting of an Indian Flag that included its artistic and cultural diversity put into a large sized canvas. It required a remote controlled mini helicopter with a camera to view it as a whole. The night welcomed the students to music and dance and a true transformation from the hectic days of the past two days. The DJ had everybody throw their hands up and their hair down and enjoy the spirit of complete and utter fun. The crowd moved their feet to the groovy tracks and cheered as the models walked the ramps.
Tired and weary, students moved to check results and though McGAN’S didn´t acquire any citations, the effort and hard work put into sheets were appreciated and acknowledged. But as the saying goes, experience is what you get when you did’t get what you wanted. And experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer to the world.

It was a sunny and bright morning in Hindustan University when the bus arrived. It has been a whirl wind of things happening ever since then. While the U.D AND U.Sec got ahead with the registration processes the rest unpacked and got ready for the coming events. Though the day went quite uneventful the evening started off with the inauguration of the convention, the evening got more exciting with the host college having their cultural events and a DJ night to get everyone in the spirit. After a very heart filling and lavish dinner, the respective college representatives moved on to pinning up sheets and preparation of the technical and cultural competitions for the next day. Rueben´s and SIDC sheets were pinned up with anticipation over the night by students.
The second day of convention got the students in track of events. On the spot events were actively participated in, out of which McGan´s won the Nerd Talk. Seminars and informative classes were held throughout the day and were initiatively attended. The convention ground was lit for the cultural competitions and that brought colour and excitement to the evening. The students got busy with preparations and costume changes. The hours preceding the events got everyone drained and exhausted but the students managed to put up a good show. Both the events, Fashion show and Dance got positive reviews.
The third day brought a lot of excitement, adrenaline and winning. The proudest moment came when McGan´s was called onstage three times consecutively. There wasn´t a time when the flag of McGan´s was put down. Special mention in Fashion Show and HITS Trophy and Jury´s Choice in product design sent the students in heights of happiness.
The convention was concluded with a lot of happy hearts yet sorrowful over the fact that three days of mind-numbing noises of the drums and heart wrenching anticipation and adrenaline is over, swept over each one of them.
And also, I would like to put in few personal words on the experience I had in the three days at the convention. Arundati Roy in God of small things says few words which relates to what I have to say “Perhaps it is true that things can change in a day. That a few dozen hours can affect the outcome of whole lifetimes. It is preserved, accounted for. Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted is imbued with new meaning. Suddenly they become bleached bones of a story”. Though it wasn´t the prettiest of picture there, with accommodation issues and time lapses and not having things done correctly, I am still sort of reeling in the wake of those three days, overwhelmed by the experience and already, inevitably a little bit nostalgic.
LAKKUNDI RURAL STUDY TRIP (BATCH 2013-2015)
It was past noon. February the 9th, 2015. Was it excitement or tension..? I couldn´t say! Read More
As we gathered at the Perar junction with a truck-load of baggage, T-scales and drafting boards, waiting to board the bus, I couldn´t help but think how exactly one year back, I watched my seniors go for their rural study and work on their village survey sheets, and wondered when I would reach the same point and how would i make it through.. Time swished past faster than a freefall and there I was boarding the bus to do our own village survey. After all the hustle and bustle of catching the window seat, settling down next to your best friend and the repeated number of headcounts, FINALLY the engine of the S.E.T.C bus roared into life with all the whistles and howls of the students and we made the first mile of our Rural Study trip! As we make our way through the winding roads, the dry lifeless yet splendidly tall towering trees, wildlife reserves, the dusk set in and all the initial enthusiasm slowly ebbed away, with some of us staring blankly out the window with their earphones on, other drooling and dozing off, a few playing a game of cards and some still dedicatedly posing for photos.
At the end of the night long bus journey, we reached the premises of the Mysore railway station where we were divided into groups to board the compartments, given our train tickets accordingly, lectured on having dinner quickly and making it back on time to the train plus the ´usual´ additional note on ´proper behavioural code´. It was the first train travel as a batch together and for a few, it was their very first time on a train as well and it was as overwhelmingly exciting as it sounds! Having boarded the train to hubli, regardless of the tiring day of bus travel we had and a hectic schedule awaiting the next day, the compartments filled with the Mcgans batch were still echoing with chit chats, laughter, yells, music, chorus singing and howling which soon died along with the night only for us to wake up to witness the beauty of the dawn breaking into vast fields of cotton plantations, the sound of the train´s whistle as it sped, the cold breeze hitting our faces and the voices of the vendors yelling “kaapi.. 10 rupee bru kaapi..”
On reaching the Hubli railway station, we lethargically got down and dragged our tired selves along with our luggage and drove our way a 1 hour journey to Gadag, the place that housed us for the next ten days. Stepping down from the bus, as our gaze fell on the three star hotel, our excitements ran equally high as our tiredness. Gadag, a dusty dry city where may be a person who prefers to live life with minimum comforts and just the bare necessities would love to stay!.. And our three star hotel- Keshav clark´s Inn, stood unrelated to, and differentiated from the rest of its dull and rusty surroundings, And THAT was Our very first day at Gadag, Our first day of Rural study! After the hasty freshen-Ups and gulping down some quick breakfast, we assembled at the lobby, hopped onto the bus and made our first visit to the site- the lakkundi village, a 20 minutes drive from Gadag.
First day at the village, as we roamed under the scorching sun, familiarizing every part of village allocated to each group, much did we notice us being followed by curious little children whispering and giggling amongst themselves and shy faces peeping out from the corners of the houses. With the heat of the lakkundi sun at the zenith and sweat trickling down my back, dipped in SPF 50 sun block and wrapped around from head to toe to escape the wrath of the sun, it became our daily routine of venturing into the village with measuring tapes, umbrellas, back packs filled with water bottles, sketch books and stationaries determined to accomplish our daily action plan.
The first day of our rural study felt like a game of treasure hunt, as we split ourselves in groups with the village map in each of our hands, hunting for boundary lines, marking and differentiating each landmark and house from another. With the pressure of completing the documentation works each day went more hectic than the previous one. Tensions ran high as we inched closer to the last day, keeping in mind all the left out chunk of our mission yet to be completed. But nevertheless, Everyday as the dusk sets in, a sense of relief comes along as we leave the site, all tanned and tired, walking all the way back to the bus to board to our hotel rooms with the thought of a warm soothing shower and some delicious dinner on our minds.
As welcoming as the cozy and comfy beds of our three star hotel looked for us, the ones with sore feet from walking all over the village, with sun-burnt skin and a heavy head ache after a busy day at the site, The fear of reviews and markings kept us up all night and gave us the strength to say “dear cozy bed, No thank you.. I´ve got lots to complete!” Every night after dinner, starting from 10pm to sometimes as long as 7am the next day, All the groups took turns, stayed awake and had their reviews and markings for their progress and on-site works accordingly, with the hotel lobby´s and corridors filled with students, some tensed up, half awake and half asleep, sitting and drafting 3 AM in the morning, while some screaming, “HURRY UP!, WAKE HER UP!!.. Our group is going next for the review” or “DAMN IT! I can´t find our butter sheets!” With all the screwing up, the disappointments, the approvals and appreciations we got from our faculties…
AS hectic and tiresome as all this sounds, We´ve had the best of our times too!!.. The unforgettable and funny experiences of trying to communicate in Kannada with the locals of the village, the kind invite-overs and the yummy local food served to us by the people of lakkundi village, the Throbbing DJ nights organized by the hotel for the McGAN’S students, the countless selfies, Being attacked by a mob of children every day at the site cashing you for chocolates, pens and pencils, And our great site seeing trip to Hampi, Badami, Pattadakkal and Aihole and enjoying the scenic wonders and the ancient tales of these gem of historic places! Our Rural Study was a wholesome and an Overwhelming experience and today looking back at those photos, remembering those hectic yet fun filled days of our ten day village survey brings back smiles to our faces.

Many students were also impressed by the “Eiffel Tower” purely made out of broken T-scales. To entertain the guests we also had a campfire, everybody huddled around the fire to keep them warm and cosy. The minute games only added to the fun and gala. Soon the dinner was served around the fire to relish the effect. The music was turned on with full volume and we had some popular numbers being played by the DJ. We danced till we dropped tired, as much as we all wanted the night to never end, it was time to leave since many colleges were leaving early the next day. Summing up it was indeed an honour to host zcm and had a wonderful experience, giving us an opportunity to interact with the other college students. With satisfaction and content of spending the weekend in a great way, students left the campus in our college bus which dropped them off in Ooty.
